Baby Steps to Balancing Your Life
While it has been my intention to Blog with you every day, I have not been around for a few days. The truth is I had been so focused on getting my writings started I had been procrastinating on other things in my life. I am expecting a baby in 4 weeks and I had not even gotten his room straightened out! So, needless to say, I had to get on with that. Then when I had not written or published any articles in a few days, I felt I had nothing of substance to share with you so I stayed away! No excuse though, I had simply lost balance in my life.
Now that I have come to realize that I have set about trying to restore that balance. I want to keep moving forward with my goals while being consistent with my current responsibilities. That is what we all need isn’t it? BALANCE.
In researching how I may get back on track I came across some pointers that I thought I would share with you. If you have perhaps, like me, lost some balance in your life, while trying to move it forward here are some things to do to try to get that balance back.
First thing you should do is keep a journal of everything you do for about a week. Keep track of every task you do, even the most mundane and seemingly insignificant. Then at the end of that week, you can go over that journal and determine which of the things are the most rewarding to you, both in work and your personal life. Then try to weed out the other things and do not repeat those things the next week. This will simplify your life a bit. It will also allow you to “not sweat the small stuff”.
Now that you’ve chosen your tasks for the week, make sure you stay on track - avoid procrastination at all costs! One way to do this is to save some recreational time for yourself during the week to ‘reward yourself’ if you do not procrastinate.
Remember to communicate clearly with those around you about your expectations, plans, goals etc. This is so everyone knows what to expect. It will take a lot of pressure off you if everything is out in the open and those who care about you are involved with your plans, after all “no man (or woman) is an island”.
Yes we’re still at baby steps. Perhaps the whole journey to success consists of baby steps? If it does at least we won’t get burnt out along the way!
Thank you for your patience and I hope you are all able to achieve this balance while we keep leading our lives to success and happiness!
Cheers,
Laura
